Yamada reflected on the history of the Syrian Revolution and discussed SSJ’s locally rooted humanitarian activities in north-west Syria. He also addressed efforts to challenge propaganda and whitewashing narratives associated with the former regime.
Emphasising the importance of Transitional Justice in achieving genuine and lasting peace, he explained why accountability remains essential to Syria’s future. Drawing on his academic background in genocide studies, he also provided a detailed analysis of atrocities committed at Saydnaya Extermination Prison.
At the conclusion of the programme, he delivered the following message:
“To the Syrian people who never abandoned the Revolution despite fourteen years of hardship: hold your heads high. At this very moment, you are free Syrians.”
