Our Work
At SSJ, we don't aim to be different—we aim to be present, committed, and real.
We work directly with survivors and families,Â
listening to their stories and responding to their needs.
We speak out
when others stay silent, challenging lies and propaganda with truth and action.
We stand on the ground.Â
We believe in the power of people:Â Syrian, Japanese, and global communities standing together for justice.
SSJ’s work focuses on six key areas that reflect our mission to support Syrians with direct action:
1.
Supporting Survivors
At the heart of SSJ’s mission is justice for survivors of detention, torture, and enforced disappearance. We work closely with survivor-led networks to ensure their voices shape Syria’s future.
Our support includes:
- Emergency shelter and trauma rehabilitation
- Identity restoration support
- Collaboration with Caesar Families Association
- Support for families of the forcibly disappeared
- Skills training and social reintegration programs
We stand in solidarity and in action with Syria’s survivors and their families.
2.
Reconstruction
For families returning to areas devastated by war, rebuilding is a form of resistance and resilience.
This work includes:
- Physical reconstruction of bombed homes
- Infrastructure repairs in areas of return
- Coordination with local engineers and laborers
- Support for returnee families with basic utilities
Every restored home is a declaration that Syrians will not be erased.
3.
Education
300+

Education is a pillar of healing and rebuilding futures.
Our initiatives include:
- SSJ Yarmouk School (300+ students, teachers, and mental health staff)
- Psychological support integrated into learning environments
Educational continuity for displaced children
4.
Economic Empowerment
Through the HIMAWARI Project and other initiatives, we promote sustainable livelihoods and financial autonomy.
Programs include:
- Social businesses (shoemaking, craftwork)
- Economic ties between Syria and Japan
Entrepreneurship training for marginalized communities
5.
Emergency Campaigns
In times of crisis, SSJ acts quickly to provide urgent support to families facing displacement and disaster.
Emergency response actions:

Every act of emergency aid is a statement of solidarity and dignity.
6.
